Coco Jones Makes Music For the LUVAGIRLS!
by Cece Faulkner
The cat’s out of the bag! I heard you (yes, you!) love timeless vocals, immersive production, and songwriting that can single-handedly heal your heartbreak. Boy, do I have an artist for you!
Meet Coco Jones.
Jones, born and raised in South Carolina, has been singing since she was practically out of the womb. As of 2024, she’s also a GRAMMY winner— a huge deal and SO well deserved! The award was given to her track “ICU” for the ‘Best R&B Performance’ category. Not only that, but this track was released on her first-ever major label debut, 2022’s What I Didn’t Tell You EP.
Last year, she returned with Def Jam Recordings / High Standardz to release her first full-length project titled Why Not More? and goodness… don’t get me started on this masterpiece of an album! “On Sight” is definitely my favorite and SUCH a standout. It’s upbeat enough to blast in the car with your friends but also sexy enough to send to your boo thang— I see you! (More like “ICU” amirite…)
If you enjoy music that mixes sultry undertones with the vibiest beats & out-of-this-world vocals, I really do recommend all of Why Not More?, but particularly the deluxe version. Let me tell you… the “Here We Go (Uh Oh)” remix with Leon Thomas is true eargasm material. Coco’s vocals alone are stunning, but Leon brings another layer that elevates the song to the high heavens.
Coco has been busy this year, too! Back in March, she released the single “LUVAGIRL,” and °1824 had some fun crossover with this track. The Strategic Partnerships team had the pleasure of putting together a few coffee shop events to celebrate the release of the sugar-sweet song. If you get FOMO like I do, it’s okay, you can check out the recap here!
Now, dear reader, I pose a question to you. Are you in the Gen Z age range? If the answer is yes, there’s a chance you might already know Coco! If you were watching Disney Channel around 2012, maybe you remember the absolutely ICONIC movie Let It Shine. Her character, Roxy, was everything I wanted to be when I grew up!
Here’s the ironic part: In that movie, Roxy was a huge popstar who was signed to a major label, and her mission was to deliver truth through her music. It’s almost like Coco has stepped into Roxy’s role in real life; she’s making music that always hits the heart, she’s growing to completely new heights of stardom and talent, and is signed to an incredible label!
